I have done a little of both, and I am going to share with you what I have done in the past for my family. Hopefully this might provide you with some ideas if you are trying to pull together pirate outfits for your own family. On most 7 day Disney cruises you will have one pirate night and it was honestly my favorite! Whatever dining room you’re assigned to that night becomes pirate themed with a special menu.
For our 10th anniversary dinner we ate at Citrico’s at the Grand Floridian, and I wore a red dress with Disney accessories. Jason was able to coordinate with me by wearing a red button down shirt and a black Mickey tie. I love to get dressed up when I visit Disney World – you can take some great pictures and there are so many great Disney outfit ideas out there! When it comes to fancier occasions, I’ll absolutely use that as an excuse to dress up as well.

If you haven’t connected with me before Disney World is my jam. I love right behind the castle in Orlando and have made it my job to help people know everything they need to have an amazing Disney World vacation. Another tip you’ll want to remember is that there is a good amount of walking on the ship.
THIS WAS WHAT WE PLANNED FOR THE MOST. Listen, we are epic Frozen fans, so it was more a matter of….which attire we wanted to wear to the dinner. I put a couple of our favorite pieces on our disney cruise packing list and we ended up wearing everything. I wore a blue nap dress, and Lydia wore her new favorite frozen themed skirt and top along with her Pandora necklace with an Olaf charm. You don’t have to be in tennis shoes all day, but leave your fancy wedges at home. I brought running shoes, sandals, flip flops one pair of wedges that could dress up a more casual outfit, and one pair of heels for formal night.
Final Thoughts About What to Pack
However, I have to say that after three cruises, I've never once seen my bags being weighed or measured at the port, so I don't know how serious they are about these limits. You can only bring non-perishable snacks that are factory sealed with you on the cruise. I brought a box of sealed granola bars on the ship with me to pack for excursions, and I had no issues getting them through security. Once the bottoms were done, I went ahead and started on the tops.
From a themed dinner, to a dance party on the deck, and finishing off with fireworks, it’s a night for celebration. Make sure you pack along some fabulous pirate gear. If you want to add another fun Disney element to a formal outfit that includes a long-sleeve button down shirt, Disney cufflinks are a subtle but fun way to do that. While it sometimes seems men don’t have as many options as women for accessorizing (I have lots of Disney necklaces, bracelets, and more!), cufflinks are really a lot of fun.
Frozen Fun
It really helped to keep everything more organized. As a nod to Walt Disney, dress up with some Hollywood glam vibes one night for dinner. This cruise outfit will be especially fitting for the new restaurant, 1923, on Disney Wish. These outfits are wonderful, and so creative! We brought the Castaway Club backpacks with us when we went to the Baths in Tortola. I'm glad that I didn't bring my nice Mickey Mouse backpack because the Castaway Club bag got wet and sandy. Kids - This little girl pirate costume and this little boy pirate costume are adorable and would be perfect for Pirate Night. No, you don't need to bring shampoo on a Disney cruise with you because DCL provides it for you. Recently, DCL transitioned away from the travel-size bottles of toiletries to larger shampoo bottles (that you can't take as a free souvenir) in the shower. Finally, I used my die-cutting machine to cut out the file from above and personalized it for each person.
This Disney cruise outfit combines the fun of Disney with some dress-up glamour. Another nice thing about the items for sale here is that they come packaged beautifully – the cufflinks have really lovely boxes and everything looks very professional. These items would make great gifts for the male Disney fans in your life who might be tough to shop for. Of course I’m a fan of going all out, so if you want to look full formal the best way to get fancy is by putting on a jacket that includes a pocket square!
Definitely bring a good sunhat as well as a baseball style cap too. There are plenty of Marvel Universe fans hanging out on a Disney Cruise. And a brand new Avengers Restaurant will be debuted on the new Disney Wish Cruise Ship. For women, why not dress up as a popular female Marvel character, Captain Marvel.
Also, remember to put the luggage tags that DCL sent you on all of the luggage that you're going to check. I know it says that you can only bring one carry on bag per person, but we always each bring a small carry on and a backpack and we've never had an issue. On our last cruise, I carried on three bags (the third carry on pink bag has our Fish extender gifts in it) and I still had no problem carrying it all on board with me.
I emphasize wonderful because although she is very experienced at sewing, apparently the pattern I chose was one of the hardest ones she has ever used. Thus, I would not recommend this particular pattern but I remember there being several ruffle skirt patterns to choose from when I was shopping. We received a lot of complements on the skirts and have gotten a lot of use out of them as you will see in a minute.
First you need to purchase some black pants. I found these sweatpants for about $5.00 at my local Walmart. Then I had my husband and son try on the pants, marked an area to cut them into shorts and them removed and cut them. The first leg I just cut without a pattern, but the second leg, I went ahead and followed the same cut pattern as the other leg.
